Frankfurt - Travel Information
Getting around (and to) Frankfurt |
 |
By Bus & Streetcar
Frankfurt has a similar U-Bahn and S-Bahn subway system to the one
in Munich, with the U-Bahn covering Frankfurt's urban area and the
S-Bahn extending into the outer boroughs. Tickets ($1.50) are sold
at the blue vending machines located throughout the city. Travelers
are suggested to buy 24-hour ticket for $6. The city buses (Stadtbus)
and streetcars (Strassenbahn) are inexpensive and a reliable way
to get around. Your subway tickets are valid on all forms of public
transport.
By Rail
The airport has its own railway station for the high-speed Intercity
(IC) and Intercity Express (ICE) trains. Getting to Frankfurt from
the airport is easy. The suburban trains run from the airport to
downtown.
Trains run at least every 15 minutes, and the trip takes about 15
minutes. The one-way fare is EUR3.05.
By car
Traveling to and around the city has becoming quite easy with a
vast number of transportation available. Some of the award-winning
car hire companies run from the airport terminal providing quality
service at affordable prices.
The big rental companies provide service at the airport and at central
locations throughout Frankfurt. The most reliable are Simple autorentals,
Avis, and many more
By Taxi
Traveling by taxi is quite cheap as there is no surcharge for calling
for a taxi. Visitors can hire a cab at any of the city's hundreds
of clearly designated taxi stands or by hailing one with an illuminated
dome light. Taxis charge by the trip and by the carload, without
surcharge for pieces of luggage. Some are suitable for carrying
up to six passengers, others for a maximum of only four. Regardless
of their size, the initial fee you'll pay for a Frankfurt taxi is
2€; additional kilometers cost 1.40€ to 1.50€ each,
depending on the time of day. However, the rates are expensive on
holidays between the hours of 10pm and 6am.
