Rome is the capital city of Italy and Latinum, a region of central
Italy. Vatican City is an independent state in the city itself
and is the residence of the Pope. Rome lies on both the banks
of River Tiber and its affluent, the Aniene, in the Campagna
di Roma, between the Apennine Mts. and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It
is famously known as the Eternal City, and is the host to some
of the finest artistic treasures of the world. It is culturally
and historically a very rich city.
Rome rose from an inconsequential rural settlement to become
one of the world's most successful empire—supreme as
a lawgiver and organizer, holding influence over practically
all the then-known world of Persia, on which it left a everlasting
impression of its material and cultural accomplishments—is
one of the great epics of history. Whatever its fortunes throughout
history, Rome has epitomized the European civilization.
