With more than 7000 historic architecture built around 17th
century Amsterdam is the largest historical center in Europe.
During that age (as historians put it, Golden Age) more than
90 islands were created and they were connected by hundreds
of bridges. The Dam or the Dam Square symbolizes the heart
of the city. There is National Monument on one side whereas
on the other side there is 1655 built establishment Royal
Palace.
The wonderful canals are the real charm of the city and while
standing on a moonlit night you can gaze at the boats or simply
can take one of the many canal tours.
You will see the luxurious coach, the old and evolving parts
of this fine-looking city. The imperial Royal Palace, the
greatest collections at the National Monument, ever mystical
Skinny Bridge and the choc a bloc resourceful and vibrant
Albert Cuyp Market… you will really explore Amsterdam
in depth.
Restaurant & Dining
Amsterdam has risen above its geographic background on a
land best suited to spuds, cabbages, carrots and cows. Now,
whether it is Italian, Argentinean, Thai, Vietnamese or typical
Dutch fare Amsterdam has more than 1000 restaurants cater
to the flavors, needs and budgets of even the most discerning
tourist. Vegetarians also find an impressive a la carte menu
here unlike most part of Europe.
Lunch is normally simple and casual. In the evenings, the
delightful downtown 'eetcafés' give you a milieu to
relax and you get along with the beautiful people from different
strata of the society. Dining in this diverse and lively city
can range from fast food to haute country specific cuisine
with every nation faithfully represented.
Nightlife
They are hip, laid-back, edgy, hyper active, stylish houses;
Amsterdam seriously plays music for the dedicated crowd. There
are plethora of discos and clubs like hardcore, garage, techno,
lounge etc. From bars to live music to style casinos, trendy
nightspots, serious theater production to eye popping entertainment
in the red light area, Amsterdam has everything under its
grab. There are some theaters that show English production,
but how about trying out a Dutch concert this time.
Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein are very popular venues in
the city but you can opt for other attractive places. Amsterdam's
state-run Casino also offers late-night games and roulette
along with canal-side romantic dining and dinner shows
Shopping
Let's face it; Amsterdam is not a high profile fashion
capital like Paris or Milan. It is more of searching for better
bargains and wearing comfortable clothes at cheap prices.
However, you will find antiques, diamonds and books in abundance.
Most shops close at 6 in the evening and opens at 9 or 10
AM. Late night shopping is earmarked for Thursdays only. There
are many shopping corridors in the city and each one has its
own niche character and specialties.
Albert Cuyp is one of the busiest outdoor markets in Europe.
It attracts a constant stream of tourists, scholars, students
from all over the world.
