Dublin has been rated as the most fun European capital. There is plenty to see in this lively city: beautiful Georgian houses and squares; the incredible Book of Kells at Trinity College; the beautiful Celtic treasures in the National Museum; the Abbey Theatre; Dublin Castle; the Guinness Brewery; and sites associated with Swift, Joyce, and Yeats, including a Writers' Museum.

Its beautiful port, Cobh, was the last port of call of the Titanic, while Blarney, just north, is the site of the famous castle and stone and on the west of Cork, lies the old fishing village of Kinsale which is now one of Ireland's top resorts, with the famous Old Head Golf Links on the narrow peninsula leading out to the lighthouse.

Wicklow Mountains lies south of Dublin, less than an hour's drive from the capital, is a wonderful place to visit, filled with wild beauty and unusual landscapes, crisscrossed by fine walking paths in every direction. Especially attractive are Enniskerry, site of the Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall; and the Lakes at Glendalough, next to a monastery founded in the sixth century by St. Kevin. Connemara

The Rock of Cashel is one of the famous landmarks of Ireland, where the ancient Kings of Munster was by St. Patrick. The Rock of Cashel is covered with the romantic ruins of a huge cathedral, as well as one of the country's finest Romanesque works, Cormac's Chapel. Only eight miles away, 15th-century Cahir Castle is the largest of the period built in Ireland, and it has a canny system of defenses; the guided tours are very colorful and explain how they worked.

Burnatty Castle lies a few miles away from Shannon Airport near Limerick. The father of William Penn once lived in tower house. Today the castle has been restored and furnished with antiques to perfectly re-create the period, and sumptuous medieval banquets are made open to the public. A folk park, around the castle, contains the traditional houses from all over the Shannon region, for demonstrating traditional skills from the good old days of self-sufficiency: weaving, butter churning, and craftwork.
